The area, in plain terms
Charlotte, Matthews, Mint Hill, Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, Pineville, Indian Trail, Waxhaw, Concord, Gastonia, Mooresville.
A city lot and a long lane are different jobs
Older close-in Charlotte lots can mean limited truck access and a short approach beside a house. Long private lanes on the rural edges of Union County, Mint Hill or Mooresville can involve much more stone, turning space and ditch crossings. Show the contractor the entire access route, including gates and soft spots.
Check who controls the road entrance
Driveway connections to state-maintained roads may need NCDOT review in some cases, and towns can have their own driveway rules. The contractor should confirm with the right authority before changing an entrance or culvert.
Large disturbed areas need another check
In Mecklenburg County, land disturbance of one acre or more needs an approved erosion-control plan and grading permit. Most residential driveways are well under that threshold, but a big lane-plus-pad project should check the total disturbed area—not just the stone surface. Smaller work still needs erosion-control measures. Confirm the requirements for the project and jurisdiction.
